Citizenship in the global community of the 21st century calls for environmental awareness and literacy, and it must begin with young leaders taught by engaged teachers who are fully supported by their institutions to make a difference. By attending this exciting new environmental leadership institute, educators (in both traditional and nontraditional classrooms) will learn effective teaching strategies that they can incorporate into their own classes. They will become energized and ready to return to their schools or education centers to implement curricular change.

A series of one-week institutes cover a wide variety of environmental education topics such as curriculum design and inquiry-based learning; using community mapping techniques in the classroom; ecological field studies; laboratory investigations in environmental science; designing computer simulations using systems modeling software; place-based community education strategies; environmental literature as a teaching tool, and changing your best traditional labs into inquiry-based labs.
