Dear Sir or Madam:

I am an environmental educator at (name your school/center) in (town name) and am eager to ask for your financial support for an exciting educational opportunity. The E.E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute for Educators is designed to provide teachers with the skills necessary to become local environmental leaders, and I would like to attend this one-week summer program to learn these critical skills. Our community would greatly profit from this unique personal and professional advancement.

Insert paragraph about your specific institute and why you—and the community—would benefit from your leadership in this area.

Environmental leaders are teachers, scholars, C.E.O.s and politicians. They organize river clean-ups and teach children to care about their natural world. They give towns a sense of community and design policies for the protection of water, land, and air. Environmental leaders are critical for the future of the Earth, but they are few and far between. With increasing world focus on sustainability in manufacturing, government, healthcare and even in the simple choices we make each day, we need to educate the environmental leaders of tomorrow…TODAY! Sadly the training to do so is both costly and difficult to find. The E.E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute will provide an opportunity both to improve my teaching skills and to network with other environmental educators, which could lead to future educational and environmental partnerships for our community.

The Institute is directed by Dr. Dean Goodwin, who also directs the Environmental Education Center at Kimball Union Academy, a prestigious high school in Meriden, New Hampshire. Dr. Goodwin sits on the Advanced Placement Environmental Science board and is an active and well-regarded member of the New England environmental education community. Building upon a well-established track record of organizing and running successful teacher training workshops, Kimball Union Academy was recently awarded a federal appropriation to develop an ongoing series of environmental leadership institutes for both teachers and students. The funding was supported by Senator Judd Gregg (NH) and comes through the US Department of Commerce. It is administered through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and has enabled the school to establish the E. E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute for Students and Teachers.

Please consider donating a scholarship fund for me to attend this prominent academic program this summer in the amount of $950, which would cover all program, room, board, field-trip, and book fees. I appreciate your consideration and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Very Sincerely Yours,
