Program Mission

The EE Just Student Institute in Costa Rica's mission is to inspire future leaders to understand the complexity of environmental problems and to learn skills to search for solutions to these problems.

Key to the EE Just Program is the integration of local youth leaders and EE Just students on each of our trips. Together, all of the student participants develop leadership skills and interests by spending an intensive and awe-inspiring 19 days traveling by horseback, foot, and kayaks through the Osa Peninsula's Tiger River watershed. The ever-changing landscape, flora, fauna, and human communities that make up the Tiger River Watershed offer a clear, observable and fascinating window into the connectivity of local and global conservation concerns. Students gain in-depth familiarity with the area and learn the skills to understand and evaluate changing environments and the forces that affect them. Along the way, students explore diverse perspectives, discover new interests, and build lasting relationships.
