Student Program in Costa RicaTrip SafetyEE Just faculty and staff have been running tropical exploration trips on the Osa since 1999. Individual and group safety has always been our number one priority. Costa Rica is generally considered to be a very safe country, and Costa Ricans are known to be honest and friendly people. Costa Rica does not have a military and has not suffered the history of civil wars and violence so common among its neighbors. According to the U.S. State Department, Costa Rica is a middle-income, developing country with a strong democratic tradition. All research sites, homestay families, and Costa Rican youth participants are carefully selected to provide an exciting and safe exploration of the country's landscape and people. EE Just guides are trained Wilderness First Aid Responders. Despite its rural, off the beaten track character, the Osa Peninsula has a 24 hour staffed medical clinic and air access to the capital, San Jose, to meet all emergency needs. San Jose is a short 40-minute flight from the Osa Peninsula and is well known for its modern medical facilities and U.S. trained medical professionals. |
