The E.E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute for Students

NH Based Institutes for 11 to 16 year olds

July 22 to August 4

Polar ice caps melting, wildfires and drought becoming more frequent and more intense, coastal flooding...all of these are early warning signs of global warming.

Join the E.E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute for Students this summer and explore this Incovenient Truth as you discover the world of climate change. Look at the data for yourself. Is global warming a reality and if so, what can we do about it? Understand the possible impacts of global warming on local industry in an inquiry-based, team-building model. You will explore how climate change relates to water quality and use, air purity, development issues, habitats, wildlife, and more! Spend two weeks with passionate environmental teachers who love to be active learners as well—and who know how to have a great time!

The E.E. Just Environmental Leadership Institute for Students is a two week program from July 22- August 4 and is open to students between the ages of 11 and 16. Students are welcome to board or join us during the day only (see Dates/Prices/Application for more information). Work as a team to come up with real solutions to the threat of global wamring while understanding how land, air and water all have a role to play in our world's mounting climate crisis.
You will:

  • Explore an environmental issue and its local and regional effects.
  • Connect with local and regional resources in a journey of field trips, lab experiments and work with nationally-recognized experts.
  • Along with your peers from across the world, present real solutions to real problems at our closing symposium.
  • Understand what it takes to become a global citizen.

Exploration and Field Study

Join the Kimball Union Academy campus program and conduct your own field research. Visit land-based businesses - agricultural, tourist and manufacturing - in an attempt to understand how they interact with their climate. Spend some time being a tourist - hiking in the White Mountains and canoeing down the Connecticut River - and understand what significant climate change could mean for the region. You and your group will consult with experts from Dartmouth College and beyond to come up with some solutions. You will do all of this and more in just two weeks!

If you prefer to hit the waves you can join our marine based program for a journey from coastal Maine to Mystic. Through interviews with fisherman, reserach at famous coastal labs like Woods Hole and a first hand tourist experience, you will explore the ptential impacts of climate change on our beautiful New England coastline AND you will propose solutions.
